Ultimate Sacrifice.

One of the hardest things I have evr done as a firefighter was go to a firefighters funeral. I have been to many, some died because of natural cause and others were killed in the line of duty. On 9/11 I lost 343 brothers when the towers collapsed in New York. I would like to dedicate this post to them with the Firemans Prayer.

When I am called to duty, God
Whenever flames may rage
Give me strength to save some life
Whatever be its age

Help me embrace a little child
Before it is too late
Or save an older person
From the horrors off that fate

Enable me to be alert
And hear the weakest shout
and quickly and efficiently
put the fire out

I want to fill my calling
And to give the best in me
To guard my every neighbor
And protect their property

And if according to my fate
I am tolose my life
Please protect with Your protecting hand
my children and my wife.

I don't know who wrote this but I think this fits for this post. If any of you want to see something that you will remember Please attend the Firemans Memorial Festival in Roscommon the third week end in September.

  1. I think this is your best blog. Well that is what i think. The poem and you talking about the pain of losing some one that is close to you. It breaks my heart and even more so that you don't know when it death can happen. I really like it.

  2. This is very nice. It's good to hear that you are dedicated to your career and will do whatever it takes to save lives. That poem is also very special and makes me kind of choke up thinking of 9 11. Great post andy!

  4. I can't imagine my job requiring me to risk my life every time I left for work. It takes a pretty special person to actually CHOOSE to do this for a career. I spend so much time just trying to stay safe and be sensible; you, on the other hand, tear into burning buildings.

I feel pretty lame when I really think about it. Thanks for being the one willing to risk so much!
